Meditation and Me
i have been writing on blogs about a lot of things, but this is a topic i am personally more bought off on, while i see people dont realize what they are missing. if you are one of them, just close your eyes and try to focus on the present - you will find that your mind jumps like a wild monkey only taking much much bigger jumps every millisecond - you think about yourself and then about your mom or your significant other, you think of your job and your next assignment, then mind jumps on to the next vacation that you have planned for, or the icecream that you just tasted down the street one sunny day - all this happening in a tiny fraction of time. The end result is that you have completely lost your focus on what you wanted to focus on.
the working conditions of today are serious stress inducers. gone are the days where physical power was the matra for survival; the moment man invented clubs to fight with, the significance of muscle power as a survival mechanism started dropping its value. Today, i can face the strongest man in the world with a .45 caliber pistol. As such, information and intelligence are really what brings in power and money - look at the richest man in the world and you will understand what i am talking about.
coming back to the main topic, work induced stress kills one slowly and gradually, significantly increasing the ageing process. build up of stress is a really dangerous thing - it is almost like you have a bow that is incrementally stretched with every arrow, ultimately the bow string cannot stretch anymore and the bow is useless. Mind is similar to that; hte more you exert, the more it must be relaxed to its original state otherwise it wears out ultimately. Mediataion is the best way to relax a stressed mind.
The aim of meditation is to calm the mind down; this can be very tricky. Transcendental meditation gurus give this example - imagine the ocean; the ocean is very wavy at the surface, quite turbulent. Now jump into the waters and start going down, the water gets less wavery, less and less turbulent, go further down and it gets to become peaceful; ultimately you reach the ocean floor where everything is pitch silent and ultimate bliss. The objective of meditation is to get you from the surface to the ocean floor.
